WEEK 4: GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY
“Marketing is really a powerful weapon to influence other people.”
We use Marketing to gain profit by building a strong customer relationship through creating value customers and capturing value in return. In order for us to attain the target market, we must know how to persuade them. It’s like courting a woman wherein you need to know what does she want and what are the things that she is expecting from you. In order for you to win her heart, you must give her such loyalty and satisfaction. You could know more about her in many ways. You could use the traditional way like sending a direct mail to her house, you could ask someone about her that is related to her, you could personally meet her so that she could provide adequate information that you want, or you could also get information from connecting to her through social networking sites like facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc. But courting a girl needs to be handled carefully because you should use ways that will not affect her culture as well as the culture of the people close to her. When you win her heart, you should be responsible enough so that she will be satisfied and will not look for for other guy.
It’s like in marketing. In order for you to satisfy what the people really want, you must do market research. To do this, you could do different strategies to get information like survey, email blasting, referral, registration forms, and social media.
As a future marketer, I have the power to manipulate the minds of many people depending on my target market. Yes, they could influence me and the company I am working for by telling us what they really want but the truth is… it is really us who influence the people by offering different products that are more than what they expected to have. So the outcome is that me and the company will gain profit because we captured the heart of our target market.
When we promote a product,we should be responsible enough to exercise the power that was given to us. We have the power to influence other people depending on what our product really shows. As an artist, we have the power to convey messages to market our product through print-ads, websites, tv-ads, audio visual presentation, photography, and many more related to our course. We have this power to express what we want without caring for what other people may think just for the sake of money. I could relate SEX to CHILDHOOD whenever I want just to earn lots of money… but for the sake of ETHICS, I WILL NOT DEFINITELY DO THIS!. That’s why we have subjects like Law and Ethics, Marketing, and we attend seminars like this. It is because we have to know that “MARKETING WITHOUT ETHICS HAS NO VALUE”.
An artist by heart will not just think about the money… He/she will also think about the welfare of the people and the CULTURE that we should all treasure. We should not corrupt the minds of the innocent viewer for it has no sense of value and respect.
